Salutations, my dears! As a descendant of the iconic Duchesse de Bourgogne, I am honored to carry on the heritage of Brouwerij Verhaeghe's rich brewing traditions. But don't be fooled by my regal heritage - I am so much more than that. I'm the decadent version of the Flanders red ale-style beer that has been masterfully brewed and then matured in oak barrels for over a year, giving me a unique blend of sourness and sweetness that is the hallmark of the style.
What sets me apart from my illustrious predecessor is the addition of chocolate and cherries sourced from the region of Sint-Truiden in Limburg, Belgium. Imagine drinking chocolate-coated cherries! These luxurious ingredients are expertly blended into my base, imparting a rich, fresh and fruity taste that perfectly complements my sweet and sour profile.
The result is a rich and epicurean taste that will satisfy even the most discerning of palates. So, my darlings, if you're looking for a dessert beer that is a cut above the rest, look no further than me - the Duchesse De Bourgogne Cherry Chocolate.
Verhaeghe Brewery is a family-owned Belgian brewery located in Vichte, West Flanders. The brewery was founded in 1885 by Paul Verhaeghe and continues to be run by the 4th generation of Verhaeghes today. Despite multiple setbacks wrought by the world wars, Verhaeghe managed to pick up the pieces and re-establish itself on the market. Verhaeghe Brewery’s greatest success is the Duchesse de Bourgogne - a Flemish Red Ale that was named in honour of Duchess Mary of Burgundy, the only daughter of Charles the Bold. Today, the brewery continues to thrive in spite of Karl’s horrific traffic accident as well as the declining demand for Flemish Red-Brown ales.
