In the intricate tapestry of Belgian beer culture, I am not just a glass; I am a living relic from the 18th century, born out of the ingenuity of Pauwel Kwak.
My existence served a bygone era marked by horse-drawn carriages and a peculiar law barring working-class coachmen from entering taverns. To address this, my creator, Pauwel Kwak, crafted a distinctive solution – a special wooden cupholder designed to hang from carriages, securing a slender glass that snugly fit a coachman's gloved hand. Needless to say, I am this ingenious and elegant glass, named the Koetsiersglas aka “Coachmen's Glass".
With my long, slender neck gracefully leading to a bulbous base, became the vessel for Pauwel Kwak's precious elixir (and signature!). Over time, I faithfully accompanied weary travelers, minimising sloshing during the bumps and turns of their journeys. But my story didn't end in that era; a wooden stand later joined my ensemble in modernised days, preserving this cherished tradition. Today, I stand as an emblem of history and craftsmanship, inviting you to partake in the legacy of Pauwel Kwak, where beer, glass, and wooden stand intertwine in a rich narrative. Allow me to grace your table, a symbol of a time when each sip told a story.

Founded over 200 years ago by Jean-Baptist Bosteels in 1791, Bosteels Brewery continued to be led by 7 generations of dedicated brewers in the Bosteels family. The brewery is a shining example of the historic brewing scene in Belgium, and also showcases the passion the family has for brewing its beers to perfection. Bosteels offers only four beers, Tripel Karmeliet, DeuS, Pauwel Kwak, and Monte Cristo, but each of these beers have their own fascinating backstory and striking flavour profile that keep discerning drinkers thirsty for more!
