LEFFE BREWERY
The history of Leffe started way back in 1152, where Premonstratensian canonical Norbertines, like monks, lived in the Notre-Dame de Leffe Abbey. Back then, water was unsafe for consumption due to numerous epidemics. However, in 1240, the canons found the perfect solution; they started brewing beer as a safer alternative to water for travellers and pilgrims. Although Leffe had faced multiple hardships and even had to temporarily cease its operations for years, it managed to get back on its feet. Today, Leffe produces iconic and world-renowned Belgian beers that are painstakingly crafted with the recipes passed from generation to generation, and also with the time-old brewing traditions from the 12th century!
