Gage Roads Brewing Co., now a leading independent brewery in Australia, began as a humble dream of Bill Hoedemaker, a renowned brewmaster. Having honed his craft at the Sail and Anchor Pub Brewery in Fremantle, where he won numerous awards, Bill was ready to embark on a new adventure.

From Margarine Factory to Craft Beer Haven

In 2002, Bill, along with his brother John, decided to turn their dream into reality. They transformed a former margarine factory into a brewery, outfitting it with second-hand equipment. Though the original setup has been replaced with state-of-the-art German technology, the factory remains the heart of Gage Roads.

The brewery's name, Gage Roads, is a tribute to the strip of ocean between Rottnest Island and Fremantle. This deep connection to its coastal roots, combined with its commitment to independence and Australian ownership, has shaped the brewery's identity.

A Taste of the Coast

For over 15 years, Gage Roads has been brewing beers inspired by the beautiful coastal landscapes of Western Australia and the vibrant Aussie lifestyle. Their core range of ales is not only Aussie-inspired but also sessionable and flavorful. For instance, their bestselling Single Fin Summer Ale is a refreshing, light-bodied beer packed with aromatic Galaxy and Enigma hops.

The brewery has also ventured into cider-making, with their Hello Sunshine Apple Cider becoming a popular choice. Originally brewed for the Fringe World Festival, this cider supports local artists and embodies the spirit of Western Australia.
